Cambourne

Barr architects were appointed to develop a design for a new youth centre in Cambridge.

Liaison and consultation with the youth club members and other potential users of the new building, the trustees, the Parish council, and the local planning authority, were important to ensure the building would serve the community in a growing city with expanding population growth.

The surrounding landscaping was designed to form as an extended secure space to the building with playground and educational garden beds and paths for the children and staff to enjoy throughout the year. Exciting and dramatic spaces are planned for the main hall which is to be multi-use and includes a climbing wall, graffiti wall, games area and performance spaces. The building also accommodates a band rehearsal room and recording studio, a kitchen for group catering activities, an IT room, and multi-purpose teaching and community meeting rooms.
